Program descriptions

By taking a global perspective, MEP has created two programs that directly address the biggest problems in healthcare today. Contrary to typical models of healthcare delivery, these programs eventually result in less spending by hospitals and better care for people in underserved areas.

The Rural Hospital Initiative is a program designed specifically to address the issues of physician shortages in underserved areas across 70% of the country. Using our educational engine, we help rural hospitals grow their own physicians, instead of relying on heavy recruiting budgets and temporary assignments from new grads and doctors who are fulfilling professional obligations.

The Urban Physician Initiative is a program designed to bring opportunity to the places where it is most absent: the schools in our urban centers. Utilizing the core models and relationships developed by MEP, we can offer underprivileged students the opportunity of a lifetime – to study medicine. Upon deeper reflection, if one member of a family becomes a doctor, it affects not only that individual, but the whole family. And if six or seven families in a community are given this opportunity, then we are not only changing the individuals and the families, but entire communities as well.
